As a company we take great pride in being able to give something back to the communities in which we develop. We look to improve community facilities wherever possible and support the many good activities that take place close to our developments.
St Margaret’s Community Centre
Back in 2002 the Scout & Guide hut in Prestwich was destroyed by a fire. As a company we worked with the local church to develop a self-funding project that would deliver a building that was fit for purpose.
Using the land the old Scout & Guide hut was on we knocked down the adjacent Youth Club and devised a scheme that involved building two houses to fund the construction of the new community centre. As a company we provided our labour for free and worked closely with suppliers to obtain either free goods or goods at cost. The end result of this project was the provision of a high quality community centre and through the sale of the two houses the church had enough profits to renovate one of their other buildings.
Salford City Reds Foundation
The Salford City Reds Foundation was set up to provide opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds with the opportunity to participate in activities relating to sport, education and health. The Foundation operates across the cities of Salford and Manchester as well as throughout the wider area of Greater Manchester. As a company we sponsor this initiative and work closely with the charity to enhance the work they currently do. The Foundation have a classroom based at the Willows which we have provided and converted into a state of the art learning zone. Museum of Museums
The Museum of Museums was opened next to the Trafford Centre in September. As a company we worked on the exhibition for Salford City Reds providing free labour and also liaising with suppliers for donations to the museum and for help with the purchase of materials. This museum is one of the facilities the Foundation uses to work from and includes a classroom, mini training and skills pitch as well as a club shop and heritage area.
Live/Work project
In conjunction with the University of Salford, Contour Housing Association and Salford City Council we have recently converted a Grade II listed Victorian mansion house into the city’s premier Live/Work accomoddation. Consisting of 8 apartments and 14 offices we are working closely with the University to help young graduate entrepeneuers set up their own businesses within Salford. This project has seen Godliman-Watson Homes make a 27 year commitment to the area and invest £650,000 into the scheme. The 8 apartments will be linked to 8 of the offices and start up businesses will be able to rent an office and apartment for a three year period during which time their business will be nutured and encouraged to grow.
